Plan a Trip
Pasadena rewards a slower visit than most Los Angeles destinations: a walkable historic core, three major museums, landmark houses and a canyon at the edge of town — all reachable without much driving.
First visit

Sports
The 1922 National Historic Landmark stadium in the Arroyo Seco, home of the Rose Bowl Game and a 3.1-mile public loop.

Gardens
Library, art museum and 130 acres of botanical gardens just beyond Pasadena's southeast edge in San Marino.

Museums
European, American and South and Southeast Asian art on Colorado Boulevard at the western edge of the city.

History
Twenty-two blocks of restored 19th- and early-20th-century commercial architecture, now the city's main walking district.

Architecture
Greene and Greene's 1908 Arts and Crafts house museum above the Arroyo Seco.

Arts + Culture
The State Theatre of California, producing plays in a 1925 Spanish Colonial Revival building.
Getting here + around
Pasadena sits at the junction of the 210, 134 and 110 freeways, about ten miles northeast of Downtown Los Angeles. Bob Hope Airport in Burbank is the closest airport; LAX is roughly an hour by car depending on traffic.
The A Line runs through the city with several Pasadena stations, connecting to Downtown Los Angeles and beyond. Staying near a station removes most of the need for a car.
Old Pasadena, Playhouse Village and South Lake are all comfortably walkable, and the civic center and Norton Simon are a short walk from the historic core.
Spring and autumn are the most comfortable. Rose Parade week around January 1 is the busiest period of the year and requires planning well in advance.
